Happy Memorial Day & Loss

A heartfelt thank you to all of the brave service men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Last week was rough. First, there was Deme's post about Grant, the little boy who she used to be a nanny for. I prayed and held my breath all week that he would be okay.

Then, I found out that one of my clients who has been in in the hospital for a long time, will not be returning home. He took a turn for the worse and will have to go to a nursing home because he now requires skilled nursing. He is a bright young man who just recently turned 26. He is non-verbal and ambulates in a wheelchair. He has a smile that lights up a room and a sweet, playful personality. Breaks my heart. I will miss working with him.

I had been thinking that I needed to give my kids more chores around the house, now that it's summer, including learning how to mow the lawn. Then, I read Anna's post about her son, Jack. More heartbreak.

Sadly, I found this out about Grant. Still more heartbreak.

All reminders that life is short and that no matter how busy we get, we need to slow down and focus on what's really important. For me, that's my kids. I've always tried to put them first. Not always easy to do as a single mom who works full time. So, I'm going to cut back my blog posts to just once or twice a week. I'll still be doing my projects and fixing up my house. I just won't feel so pressured to get them done, or to try and post three times a week, which is what I've been trying to do.

I'm looking forward to a fun summer with my kids. Going to zoo concerts, museums, swimming, the library, hanging out, and family parties. I'm even going to drag them to the Georgia O'Keefe Museum in Santa Fe because we haven't been yet. We are all very excited because we're going to Disneyland this summer!

I will be back next week with a living room project that's been almost two years in the making. Can you say pro-cras-tin-a-tion?

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Oh Sharon, I'm completely with you. The past couple of weeks seem to have been heavy with heartache, loss or need. It's taken a physical and emotional toll over here too, but I think using them as opportunities to remember to savor every moment and get our priorities back in order is a way that God helps us to find beauty in darkness. I hope you enjoy a summer full of fun with your sweet kids!
